Crock-Pot SCVT650-PS 6-1/2-Quart Programmable Touch Screen Slow Cooker Review

As a busy mom of three kids, I highly recommend the Crock-Pot SCVT650-PS 6-1/2-Quart Programmable Touch Screen Slow Cooker. Crock-Pot is the company that started it all with the slow cookers; I grew up hearing their name. To me Crock-Pot is a name that can be trusted, no worries about getting a cheap product that will fall apart after a few uses. The Crock-Pot SCVT650-PS not only lives up to the Crock-Pot name but it exceeds everything that I would expect from them.

The 6-1/2-Quart oval pot is perfect for my family because it gives us enough food for dinner, but then my husband and I also have leftovers for lunch the next day. I have tried using the 5-quart slow cookers, but always have difficulty preparing the larger meals, but this one will easily cook a 7-pound roast to perfection. As an added bonus, the slow cooker can be programmed for up to 20 hours, which is longer than many other programmable options out there.

Pros

Settings are just perfect. One problem that I have run across with numerous slow cookers is that the low setting gets too hot it actually boils my food rather than slowly cooks it, and on these same models, the high setting is a joke. The high setting often cooks the food too quickly so it ends up dried or burnt and not very edible. This one the settings work perfectly.

Works for large batch cooking and comes with its own cookbook. Many 5-quart slow cookers claim they are great for cooking for large families, but they always seem to fall short. This 6-1/2-Quart model easily cooks for 8 to 9 people making it great for office parties. I have never had a hard time doubling a recipe in this thing. As an added bonus it comes with its own cookbook that provide numerous ideas on what to cook in the slow cooker, recipes and cooking instructions included.

Automatically adjusts to keep warm setting. When using the slow cooker it needs to be programmed for how long the meal needs to be cooked, which is easily done with the touch screen controls. The slow cooker can be programmed from 30 minutes up to 20 hours. Once the cooking time has run out the slow cooker utomatically turns itself to the keep warm mode, so dinner is just the right temperature when the family is ready to eat.

Digital timer keeps track of time spent in keep warm mode. Food safety is a big concern of mine so knowing how long the food has been kept warm is very important to me. The Crock-Pot SCVT650-PS keeps track of how long the keep warm setting has been used in one-minute intervals and will track up to six hours.

Cons

Programmable buttons are hard to read. The worst thing about this unit is that the programmable touch screen buttons are difficult to read. In order for me to read them, I have to bend down to look at the touch screen, but that is not a very big deal to me. Looking closely at the touch screen ensures I have all of my settings right for that perfect dinner. The Crock-Pot SCVT650-PS is one of the best slow cookers on the market and is made by the leading slow cooker company. One of the best things about this unit is that it is a high quality unit. One thing to watch out for is how heavy it is, which reassures consumers even more that they are not getting some flimsy slow cooker. Not only is it a high quality unit it is also a durable one and is sold at an affordable price.
